Forget percentages and product names. There are four things film can do to a window, and they look nothing like each other. Pick the one that matches your problem.

Solar Control

Kill the heat and glare

The workhorse. Heat, glare and UV taken out before they reach the room, with the glass still looking like glass.

From invisible to properly dark. The lightest films do most of the heat work.
Neutral or reflective. Reflective buys you daytime privacy as well.
Best for: west-facing rooms, sunrooms, open-plan offices, anywhere with a big expanse of glass.

Decorative & Frosted

Privacy without losing the light

Nobody sees through it, day or night, and the room stays as bright as it was. This is the one people mean when they say frosted.

Dozens of patterns. Plain frost through to cut designs and etched effects.
Cut to any shape: a band at eye height, or a shape around a door.
Best for: bathrooms, front doors, sidelights, conference rooms and glass walls.

Looks like nothing at all until something hits it. Then the pane holds together instead of landing across the floor.

Several thicknesses. Each matched to what the window is actually exposed to.
